|
|
Okay, an older relative in my Hispanic family told me that young adults with acne in Cuba used to splash their faces with their own morning urine and allowed it to dry. This was to be done for 2 weeks, and suppesdly the acne would disappear. Now, while I am a rational, scientific person, this old wives tale could border a stitch truth as the mere astringent properties of ureic acid induce a drying action on the skin. Nevertheless, the thought of soaking my face in pee every morining is revolting enough to make me hurl--and then I'd really have a medley of bodily fluids to clean up.
Has anyone out there tried this? Don't be afraid to admit (please! I am opnely saying that I am highly considering it). If you're embarrassed to post a reply, then please send me a PM or a link to an article on this stuff. I guess I need more information than from an ancient relative's account of skin care in Cuba in the 60's. _________________ -Azais |

Hello. This was a hot topic a couple years back on this forum. I even tried it myself, not only on my face but drinking it. I hope that didn''t make you hurl. My results were okay, nothing great. I believe this was due to two things: my acne wasn't bad (just average) and I didn't do the regimen for a long period of time (just like 3-4 months).
People should understand that urine therapy is one of many homeopathic/natural alternatives to getting rid of acne. It is well documented as a therapy for many illnesses but not necessarily acne, so it is obviously not a poplular method. The main reason we view it strangely (I know I initially did) is becasue as a society, we think of urine as a "waste" and it really is just water that has run through a highly complex filtration system within our bodies. It contains many medicinal properties and that is why it is used in quite a few pharmaceutical products that are on the shelf at Target or Walmart. I kid you not!
As you might guess, I did my research on the subject before I started. I found out it shouldn't be looked at so repulsively. As for putting it on the face, it should be done like with any other astringent or liquid; using a cotton ball, blotch it on then leave it on for a few minhutes. If drinking urine as a acne solution, it should be done in small quantities, not large amounts like some people might think (just drops of it would suffice). During my therapy, I drank something more like one half to one ounce every morning, mixed with juice of course. It never made me sick or gag or anything like that. The more you read about this therapy, the more likely you will understand why some people choose to do it. It's not for everyone, just like any alternative method. And it doesn't mean it will work for you but just something to consider.
